Radiohead – “A Moon Shaped Pool” – This album was released on the 8th May, 2016. It is Radiohead’s ninth studio album and their first studio album since they released “The King of Limbs” back in 2011. “A Moon Shaped Pool” has received many plaudits, and it has even nominated for the Mercury Prize, a yearly prize which is awarded to any British or Irish band/artist that has produced the best album. Radiohead have been nominated for this prize an astounding five times now. There is no doubt that this album deserved its nomination as it is simply magnificent. Radiohead fans may have had to wait five years for a new album, but boy, was it worth the wait!

David Bowie – “Blackstar” – This was David Bowie’s 25th and final studio album. Bowie died of liver cancer shortly after it was released (8th January). This shocked his legions of fans as he had never revealed the details of his illness to the public. This album was described as Bowie’s parting gift to his fans, and it is definitely a gift that will not disappoint you. “Blackstar” was met with plenty of critical acclaim and it reached number one in the Album Charts in a number of different countries. It was number one in the UK charts for 3 weeks; not surprising when you consider the fact that it sold over 150,000 copies in the first week alone. There can be no doubt that Bowie’s tragic death contributed to album sales; however, the work is such a masterpiece that we reckon it would have done pretty well anyway. If you are a fan of great music, you will love this album.

  • R&B

Kanye West – The Life of Pablo – This is Kanye West’s eighth studio album. It was released on the 14th February and took three years to complete. There is no doubt that this is a messy album; West changed the name of it about three times. However, one must admit that this messiness adds to the allure of the album. To add to this, at some points throughout the album the lyrics are diabolical; however, the fact that this does not derail the album is a testament to West’s ability as a producer. Whereas this album is probably not going to be classified by many people as one of the best albums of the year, one thing that is for certain is that it definitely got people talking.
